The Leichthouse
for Youth began in 2002 when Jackie and Larry Leicht
realized a need for sponsoring kids in the B.G.
Squirrel Run. Many students in the Fort Worth area
would like to participate in sporting events such as
the Squirrel Run but their families don't have the
resources to pay for the registration. Jackie and
Larry supported the first school team in 2002 with a
$500 donation.
Since that time, additional corporate and individual
sponsors have contributed toward registrations for
runners from the FWISD After School program and from
the Lena Pope Home. This gives these youth the
opportunity to learn how to take care of their
bodies and their spirit. As a way of saying thanks,
they are giving back to their community by spending
a half day field trip in Fort Worth Botanic Garden
where they spread mulch, create pathways, rake
leaves or help the education department assemble
packets for the Green Thumb program.
We will accept any amount toward The Leichthouse
Runners, but $500 will support an entire school
team.
