The Fort
Worth Botanical Society |
The B.G. Squirrel Run is provided by the Fort Worth
Botanical Society as a fundraising project for the
Fragrance Garden.
The Fragrance Garden was constructed as a garden for the
blind. The beds are elevated and filled with plants that
have scented leaves and/or fragrant flowers. This garden
features interpretive signs and plant labels in Braille.
The Fragrance Garden offers all visitors a delightful,
sensory experience through the scent of foliage and
flowers, the sound of a splashing fountain, and the
textures of plants and sculpture. The Garden is also
wheelchair accessible.
The Fort Worth Botanical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization and we raise funds and implement projects
specifically for the beautification and enhancement of the
Fort Worth Botanic Garden. Recent major projects in the
Japanese Garden include building new restrooms, wheelchair
ramps and a new fence, and rebuilding the Japanese
Pavilion. We have provided new signage and co-sponsored
placement of sculptures by Robert Wick. Our latest accomplishment was the completion of the Native Texas Forest Boardwalk, a unique educational opportunity for everyone.
The Texas Native
Forest Boardwalk is a living outdoor classroom--an
elevated boardwalk with viewing platforms and educational
features that also acts as a pathway connecting major
features of the Botanic Garden. Its purpose is to
stimulate interest in the native forest and to encourage
visitors to use what they discover about stewardship and
conservation in their own home environment. |
